The celebration of Christmas in its current form began to spread in the late 19th century in affluent gentry homes in rural areas and among the bourgeoisie in cities. In bourgeois homes, servants especially worked diligently on Christmas preparations. Cleaning the house and preparing Christmas dishes required a lot of time and effort, with work starting weeks or even months before Christmas itself.

The Christmas season at the Uusikaupunki Museum opens on Sunday, November 24th, from 12 PM to 4 PM at the Wahlberg Museum House, with free entry. The Christmas at the Wahlberg House features beautifully decorated rooms of a bourgeois home, Christmas pastries, and flowers. This year, visitors can also learn about pre-Christmas tasks, such as what the servants in a bourgeois house did before the holiday celebrations or how the wealthy merchant family prepared for Christmas.

Small museum visitors can also play detective and solve the "Invisible Christmas Secret Message," which can be found using a UV lamp!

In addition, visitors to the museum house can explore the maritime permanent exhibition upstairs and an exhibition about the history of the Uusikaupunki railway.

Opening hours:

November 26, 2024 – January 4, 2025: Tuesday to Saturday, 12 PM – 3 PM (closed on December 6th, December 24th–26th, and January 1st)
